Smart Balance Bikes by Smart Gear, often referred to as “run bikes” or “balance bikes”, which are pedal free and without training wheels, first and foremost help a child develop the most important skills necessary to later ride a 2 wheel bicycle with pedals: BALANCE and MOTOR SKILLS. Smart Balance Bikes were designed to develop a child’s balance and coordination by simply allowing the child to sit and walk or run with the bike by pushing with their feet. If the bike starts to fall, kids instinctively regain their balance using their feet. About Balance Bikes:
Traditional toddler bikes with training wheels don't necessarily train or teach a child how to ride a bicycle. The training wheels do not allow kids as much opportunity to feel the motion-propelled balance of two-wheel biking. Easy to assemble and very good quality. It went through a whole year, and she is still using it now and she is 3 1/2, and 39 inches tall. All we had to do was raise her seat. This bike has been left out in the rain, and is still great. But I haven't been impressed overall.My daughter is 2 1/2 years old now, and I had given away the Mini Glider my now-4 year old son had learned on. We picked this one up for cheap used, and although its construction is fine and it looks neat, its design falls short. 1. The seat even on its lowest setting was a tad too high. I drilled some holes, problem solved. 2. Even with my own holes, the bike is much more upright in style, compared to the more "cruiser" style of the Mini Glider (and especially the Go Glider, which my oldest son used at age 5). This may make balancing harder, I'm not sure. 3. There is nowhere for the child to put her feet, except on the ground. On the Mini Glider he was coasting after a couple days, but I don't see how anyone could comfortably coast with this bike. I plan to attach some pegs on the front forks where she can put her feet.
